Sencha Uchiyama was a famous Japanese tea master and founder of the Ueda Soko Ryu style of tea ceremony. He lived during the Meiji era (1868–1912) and was considered a leading authority in the art of tea. Uchiyama’s style of tea ceremony emphasizes simplicity and rustic elegance, drawing inspiration from the tea practices of historical figures like Sen no Rikyu. His school of tea ceremony is still practiced today, with many students and teachers continuing his legacy.
