gRNA Explained

gRNA stands for “guide RNA,” which is a key component in the CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing system. gRNA serves as the guide that directs the Cas9 enzyme to the target DNA sequence where it will make the desired edit. The gRNA molecule is usually around 20 nucleotides long and is designed to match the target sequence in the DNA. Once the Cas9 enzyme binds to the DNA via the gRNA, it can make a precise cut at the desired location. This cut can then be used to delete, replace, or insert new DNA sequences at the site. The gRNA sequence can be easily customized, making the CRISPR/Cas9 system a powerful tool for genetic research and engineering.
